Within the Erasmus+ project "Learning mobility of persons in the Riga State German Grammar School in the school year 2023/24", six members of the German Debating Club from 10 - 14.12.2023 participated in learning activities and improved their foreign language skills at the Dr. Johanna Decker Amberg Gymnasium in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria.
The aim of the project was to
- to improve cognitive, critical thinking and foreign language skills;
- develop communication and social competences;
- to learn about intercultural communication and to foster future-oriented thinking.
Before leaving for Amberg, the project participants explored Munich's Old Town in the Christmas spirit with school alumna Nikola Elina Sauja, who is studying at TU Munich and talked about her study experience.
During the week, the students gained valuable experience by taking part in lessons, semi-finals and finals of the 9th and 10th grade debate competition, as well as by playing the role of assistant judges. Accompanied by students from the Amberg Gymnasium, they also got to know the town itself.
The project also provided a cross-cultural experience by visiting the Gutenek Palace Christmas Market and one of the most famous and oldest Christmas markets in the world, the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg.
On the final day of the project, the participants discussed education, health, migration, mobility and heating issues in Germany and Latvia, and visited the Technical University of East Bavaria, where they learned about modern technologies and the use of robots.
In April 2024, Jugend debattiert participants from Amberg visited our school to continue their cooperation and watch the JDI Latvian final.
